100 French words

We started a book yesterday with the 100 words we've learned so far this year! Ask me what words I wrote yesterday and which ones I wrote today. The rest of the day was taken up by the large amount of unfinished work, watching a special presentation our buddy class did (ask me about my favourite part; hint: a reader's theatre presentation on a book by Robert Munsch) and a lockdown. We did such a great job in the lockdown - Mme was really proud of us!!

A sea of pink!

There were many pink shirts in the classroom today! We had a great discussion with Mme this morning about peer conflict and bullying. Ask me if I remember what criteria bullying needs to meet to be considered bullying (repetitive, intentionally hurtful, and a power imbalance (last one is a tough concept!)). We had centres today; one of them was simply cleaning our desks. ;) We also were fortunate enough to have more help with making our bonhomme de neige. Ask me what mine looks like! We went to library today as well.

Scholastic Forms Home Today - pls return by Friday

Today, we found the sound 'oi' in various words. We worked on adding doubles in math as well as the math talk of "The sum is 15. What is the question?" (5+5+5, 10+5, 0+15, etc.) Ask me what my answer was. We also went to gym and music today. We read a book called  "Sois Toi Même" by Todd Parr. We finished Friendology as well today. Ask me to finish the sentence: "No friendship is _____." and why this is important to remember.

Reminder from Mme Harbinson that tomorrow is library day and Pink Shirt Day.

New tracking system for French

We had a great pyjama day celebrating the French we've been learning in class. We even got to watch a bit of Toupie et Binou (a great way to increase our French knowledge is listening to short episodes in French). We have started a new system where once we get 10 signatures from Mme on a sticky, we get to bring it home for our parents. We have a new sound today! The words of the week have gone home today in our pochettes bleues. We also had math, gym, journal time and buddies today. Ask me what I worked hard at today!
Reminders from Mme: Wednesday is library day AND pink shirt day.

Wow! We had truly a great day. Mme (and we) said that it was a huge improvement to yesterday! Bravo moi!
Today, we finished more of our 100s centres, had music and finished some work from the week.

100s day centres

Today, we did centres celebrating our 100th day of school. We did art with our 100s cutouts (thank you parent volunteers for cutting at home!), we pieced together a 100s chart, we counted out Fruit Loops and made necklaces (only for decoration, not to eat we were told - unless parents choose otherwise, of course), we built with 100 cups, we found 100 numbers out of order, and many more. We will finish the rest tomorrow (hopefully!).
We also got a new sound of the week today - ask me what it is and a word with it in it. Finally, we had music. In music and in our class, we needed to have a discussion around behaviour expectations. This includes those times when Mme is not around, such as lunch hour and recess. It is more challenging to monitor our own behaviour during these times but Mme believes we truly can do it. Additionally, we all agreed that we would try another week of bringing in items from home to play with at recess if we choose but that if Mme continues to see them during our learning time, we will need to keep them at home.
Following our are words of the week. Mme's substitute teacher forgot to introduce them so see if I can read them as I'm seeing them for the first time.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We will be focusing on these three words this week in our literacy activities.  Please review them with your child. Merci beaucoup!

Please review the following words: le, la, les, un, une, des, il, elle, je, mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses, voici, est, j’ai, et, c’est, tu, il  y a, je suis, très

Carnaval + Valentine's Day = F-U-N!

What a great day! Mme isn't sure whether we enjoyed "les courses en canot" or handing out Valentine's cards more. Either way, it was a very fun day! In the morning, we read with another class. We had all been given the same visual prompt for Carnaval and we were listening to what each other wrote to describe the image. Ask me what mine and my partner's was. Bonhomme came and we got a delicious French collation. After, we did some learning centres centred on Valentine's and Carnaval.

Mme will be away Tuesday and Wednesday so no need to send in home reading or check the blog.
Have a great long weekend. A reminder that next Thursday is hot lunch.

A busy Carnaval day

Today, we went outside to play some hockey. Ask me what I thought about playing it on snow! We also continued along with many things leftover from the last two days, related to Valentine's and Carnaval. We will continue with these tomorrow as well. We worked on our snowpeople scarves and some of us were able to decorate our snowpeople some more.
Tomorrow is the day to bring cards for the other students. (We are so very excited for this!) A reminder that Thursday, Friday and Monday are no school days for the students.

A perfect afternoon for skating

Today, some of us started decorating our snowmen/snowwomen! We also started a new French mini book, had a math talk on what is the addition if the sum is 5 (4 + 1, 3 + 2, 1 + 4, etc), played a math game, and wrote in our journals about Bonhomme.
A note from Mme:
-Tomorrow is library day and tuque day
-Wednesday is Valentine's day for us
-All students should have another video of them uploaded to IRIS (presentation of their winter vacation photo)

Bonhomme came today!

What a special day! Ask me what game I played and who else I met playing it. We also had a Carnaval rally. Ask me to do the cheer. In French, we made up sentences for a story about making a snowman.
Monday is plaid day and skating day.
From Mme Brinson:
FOOD ALLERGIES OR SENSITIVITIES TO HOT CHOCOLATE AND CROISSANTS?
On Wednesday, February 12, students will be provided with hot chocolate and croissants as part of our celebration of French Canadian food and culture.  If you DO NOT want your child to eat this snack, please send me an email to let me know prior to Tuesday, Feb 11 and send a special snack for your child to eat on Feb. 12.  (Thank you to VASPFS for funding this treat for the school!)

jeudi le 6 février

Une bonne journée!
Today, we worked some more on "les foulards" for our bonhommes. We also played a partner math addition game with two dice. We had gym in the afternoon and worked on our science presentation and had buddies. Some of us have uploaded another video into IRIS. The rest of us will do so tomorrow. Tomorrow, we get to wear red, blue and white if we wish. We also have a brief Carnaval assembly and will be playing a game with other students in various classrooms. I can bring a game if I want (should be short and I should be able to easily explain it).

Our snowmen are getting scarves!

We had a fabulous afternoon making scarves for our snowmen. Ask me what pattern I'm doing - and how well weaving went! This morning, we talked about a letter that makes two sounds and we learned a new visual for it. Ask me what the letter is (hard g) and about the story of the girl who is thirsty and drinks water all day ("glug", "glug", "glug"). In math, we played a game with friends and during Friendology, we reviewed the four friendship rules. We ended the day with music.

A note from Mme:
-tomorrow is hot lunch day
-Friday is blue, red, white day
-Monday is plaid day and skating - please return all forms by tomorrow or let Mme know if I am not skating
-Tuesday is tuque day and library day
-Wednesday is winter wear day and the day we hand out Valentine's cards

A new month!

Today, we said hello to new desk arrangements (ask me who I'm sitting with) and tomorrow, we'll say goodbye to gymnastics. Ask me about my routine and what it consists of. Today, we learned about adding 0 to a number and why it's so special. We also had buddies where we read and were read to. During writing, we wrote about our winter vacation and we also wrote in our journals.
From Mme: parents, thank you for your patience with the February newsletter. I needed to check something before I sent it out. I'll send it tonight.
