Mixing Science and Art

We mixed science and art today (literally!) by finding a new way to explore primary and secondary colours. A lot of fun but a lot of work! We also finished September off by recognizing Orange Shirt day and how it came to be. A discussion followed on why each child matters. We explored a new letter/sound. Ask me to show you all of the letters/sounds we've been learning "en français".
Please check your email inbox for our class newsletter later this evening.

A great Terry Fox run

We should be very proud of each one of us for running our best today! Collectively, we ran 224 times around the Div 1 field! Amazing!! Thank you to all who came out for your support - we loved the cheering on. We also raised $140.50! We will hear a total for the school next week.
Today was a short but busy day - we finished off our math centres and did some cleaning up.
Monday is Orange Shirt Day and Library Day. Bonne fin de semaine!

Terry Fox run is "demain"!

Terry Fox run is tomorrow at 8.45 am. Please remember that I need appropriate clothing/shoes. Thank you kindly for all of the donations. Our class now has $99! Last day to donate is tomorrow.
We had music today. Ask me if I got a happy note! We also read a book on kindness and how doing something small for someone can be something really big to them. We also had math centres and used the playdough in our class to make the letters we've studied. Can I tell you all of my letters?

A reminder that Special Lunch is "demain"!
Wow! Thank you for all of the donations for the Terry Fox Foundation. We now have $74!!
Today, we read a book in preparation for Orange Shirt Day. Ask me what the mother is now allowed to do. We also had buddy time. In the hallway today, we went on a number hunt. Ask me what I found!

Math printing practice

Today we practiced our number printing in a...different way. My finger was my pencil and my friend's back was my paper!
In music, we played the djembe and watched a video. Ask me what that the djembe sounds like!

Wow! Merci pour les dons. Thank you for the donations to Terry Fox. So far, our class has raised $30!!

Terry Fox Run reminder from the school:
On Friday, I need to dress warmly for the weather for the Terry Fox Run (in layers and in safe outdoor shoes to run in rather than winter boots or rain boots).  If it is snowing or raining lightly, we are still running outside.  (If weather is unsafe, we will be inside.)  I also need to bring a pair of dry socks to change into afterwards.

Literacy Centres Today!

We did literacy centres today. There were six centres but I only did four. Ask me which was my favourite. Please also ask me what our two new letters are today. Hint: they are cousins and can make the same sound. We read about our new season! We started a new duotang jaune today, with new words. Outside, we ran for Terry Fox and played some games in PE.
Picture Day info coming home in "pochette bleu" today.

Running for Terry Fox!

We had gym today - ask me how many laps I did in the sunshine for Terry Fox. We are working on improving the number over time. M. Trevor is keeping a tally of our determination! We also had buddies today and played another math game with a new set of cards! See if I can remember what was different about them! Mme is excited to see you tonight and tomorrow at conferences!

Colour mixing today!

We had a very  exciting science exploratory afternoon. We made predictions about colour mixing, using crayons and then we mixed the colours using "pâte à modeler". We then got to keep our creations to bring home!
We also read a book about colours. It was en anglais but it is part of a CBC reading contest, recommended for an award, so we thought it was worth it.
Our last paper bag was opened as well and we played a new math game using playing cards, A-6.

Library is tomorrow

We have switched our library day to Day 3 (tomorrow). Mme let us know that we can return our books or keep them (one or both) for another week.
Today was a very busy day! We practiced our printing with les lettres "a" et "e". I can show you the sound and gesture that goes with both letters. In math, we are ready to play Dominoes with a friend and we also played our game "Désolé" from yesterday. We also read a book about Terry Fox, went outside to talk about red in our environment and had music and PE. A full day!

A new math game today!

The student verification reports from the office are coming home today. Please review the information, make any necessary changes, sign and send back. Even if the information is all correct, please sign and send back.
Thank you for signing up for Parent/Teacher conferences. Mme Harbinson is looking forward to meeting everyone this Thursday/Friday to hear more about me (your child)! Remember that there is no school on Friday.
Today, we played a really fun math game with our buddies. Ask me how to play and we can even play together tonight! All that we need is a paper, numbered 1-6, a die, and some counters (pennies, beans, etc...). We also explored colours in real life, cutting them out of magazines and we have a new letter/sound this week!

Merci pour venir ce matin!

Thank you for coming this morning! It was really nice to meet many of you over coffee and pastries! I will see you all next week at Parent-Teacher conferences.
Today, we talked about a bit more about classroom expectations - What is my job/not my job? What is Mme Harbinson's job/not Mme Harbinson's job. Ask me about it! We also opened some more paper bags, finished some unfinished work from the week, had centre time and did our Friday clean up. Bonne fin de semaine!

Fall Welcome Tomorrow Morning

This is an early post as Mme is going home at lunch with a very sore throat. We read a very interesting book that talked about friendship as well as opening some paper bags. This afternoon, we will head to music. Please remember to "porte le bleu" tomorrow!

Library Day today!

We had our first library day today! We can take out two books to bring home. One is en anglais and the other is en français. We keep these at home until the next day at the library. We might be switching days and Mme Harbinson will let you know but they will not be due until next week. I will do my best to keep them clean and safe. We also came up with our class rules today. Ask me what they are. There are only 3! (Hint: Be ______. Be ______. Do your ______.) This Friday is a jour d'esprit! Grade One is wearing bleu!!

Colour Exploration

Another great day in Grade One! Today we explored the various colours we know and found them in the hallways with our Grade Three buddies. Ask me what we did when we found them. We also had gym again today with M. Trevor and one of the other Grade One classes. We played a game called "Pieuvre".  Three more paper bags were opened and we also learned a new song: Marche, marche marche à l'école. The other verses are: "saute", "roule", "cours" and "danse". Ask to see if I can sing it for you.
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to make playdough for our class. We really appreciate it!
