Carnaval + Valentine's Day = F-U-N!

What a great day! Mme isn't sure whether we enjoyed "les courses en canot" or handing out Valentine's cards more. Either way, it was a very fun day! In the morning, we read with another class. We had all been given the same visual prompt for Carnaval and we were listening to what each other wrote to describe the image. Ask me what mine and my partner's was. Bonhomme came and we got a delicious French collation. After, we did some learning centres centred on Valentine's and Carnaval.

Mme will be away Tuesday and Wednesday so no need to send in home reading or check the blog.
Have a great long weekend. A reminder that next Thursday is hot lunch.

A busy Carnaval day

Today, we went outside to play some hockey. Ask me what I thought about playing it on snow! We also continued along with many things leftover from the last two days, related to Valentine's and Carnaval. We will continue with these tomorrow as well. We worked on our snowpeople scarves and some of us were able to decorate our snowpeople some more.
Tomorrow is the day to bring cards for the other students. (We are so very excited for this!) A reminder that Thursday, Friday and Monday are no school days for the students.

A perfect afternoon for skating

Today, some of us started decorating our snowmen/snowwomen! We also started a new French mini book, had a math talk on what is the addition if the sum is 5 (4 + 1, 3 + 2, 1 + 4, etc), played a math game, and wrote in our journals about Bonhomme.
A note from Mme:
-Tomorrow is library day and tuque day
-Wednesday is Valentine's day for us
-All students should have another video of them uploaded to IRIS (presentation of their winter vacation photo)

Bonhomme came today!

What a special day! Ask me what game I played and who else I met playing it. We also had a Carnaval rally. Ask me to do the cheer. In French, we made up sentences for a story about making a snowman.
Monday is plaid day and skating day.
From Mme Brinson:
FOOD ALLERGIES OR SENSITIVITIES TO HOT CHOCOLATE AND CROISSANTS?
On Wednesday, February 12, students will be provided with hot chocolate and croissants as part of our celebration of French Canadian food and culture.  If you DO NOT want your child to eat this snack, please send me an email to let me know prior to Tuesday, Feb 11 and send a special snack for your child to eat on Feb. 12.  (Thank you to VASPFS for funding this treat for the school!)

jeudi le 6 février

Une bonne journée!
Today, we worked some more on "les foulards" for our bonhommes. We also played a partner math addition game with two dice. We had gym in the afternoon and worked on our science presentation and had buddies. Some of us have uploaded another video into IRIS. The rest of us will do so tomorrow. Tomorrow, we get to wear red, blue and white if we wish. We also have a brief Carnaval assembly and will be playing a game with other students in various classrooms. I can bring a game if I want (should be short and I should be able to easily explain it).

Our snowmen are getting scarves!

We had a fabulous afternoon making scarves for our snowmen. Ask me what pattern I'm doing - and how well weaving went! This morning, we talked about a letter that makes two sounds and we learned a new visual for it. Ask me what the letter is (hard g) and about the story of the girl who is thirsty and drinks water all day ("glug", "glug", "glug"). In math, we played a game with friends and during Friendology, we reviewed the four friendship rules. We ended the day with music.

A note from Mme:
-tomorrow is hot lunch day
-Friday is blue, red, white day
-Monday is plaid day and skating - please return all forms by tomorrow or let Mme know if I am not skating
-Tuesday is tuque day and library day
-Wednesday is winter wear day and the day we hand out Valentine's cards

A new month!

Today, we said hello to new desk arrangements (ask me who I'm sitting with) and tomorrow, we'll say goodbye to gymnastics. Ask me about my routine and what it consists of. Today, we learned about adding 0 to a number and why it's so special. We also had buddies where we read and were read to. During writing, we wrote about our winter vacation and we also wrote in our journals.
From Mme: parents, thank you for your patience with the February newsletter. I needed to check something before I sent it out. I'll send it tonight.
